One of the best solutions to stop unwanted critters from getting into the attic is to install a steel 1/4″ * 1/4″ Screen over each vent hole prior to installing the new Roof and Vents.  Many homes in Vancouver and Burnaby have critters crawling around the roof top.  Often, the screen on the vent is insufficient to stop critters from getting in.
